How Your Core Strength Affects Digestion

We’re getting a little personal today, but we can’t talk about core strength without talking about digestion.

You might not realize it, but your posture and core strength play a big role in how your body processes food.

Here’s how:

  1. Heartburn & Sluggish Digestion
Slouching after eating can put pressure on your abdomen, leading to acid reflux and heartburn. It may also slow digestion by affecting how food moves through your intestines.
  2. Incontinence
Poor posture increases pressure in your abdomen, which can put stress on your bladder. If your pelvic floor muscles aren’t strong enough to handle it, this can lead to leaks.
  3. Bowel Movements
Slouching can contribute to constipation, bloating, and gas. It also affects how you sit on the toilet, which may make it harder to go. Sitting with a neutral spine, tilting slightly forward, and raising your knees above hip level (using a footstool) can help make things easier.

One simple tip to improve digestion? Take a short walk after eating. Movement helps your body process food more efficiently—and you’ll feel better, too.

Just a few more reasons to keep your core strong, stable, and aligned. Small adjustments in your posture and movement can make a big difference!
