A lot of people think getting older means slowing down.
Less activity.
Less strength.
Lower expectations.
But that doesn’t have to be the case.
Sue is 80 years old — and she’s not slowing down.
She’s a hiker. An outdoors person. Someone who would rather wear out than rust out. And when she joined Adam Clark Fitness, it wasn’t to pass time or “stay busy.”
It was to stay capable.
She wanted to keep doing the things she loves — backpacking in Baxter State Park, skiing at Sugarloaf, and being outside without hesitation or fear of her body holding her back.
And she didn’t want to leave that up to chance.
She wanted to train for it.
That’s where strength training comes in.
Through consistent workouts, proper coaching, and a program built around her body, Sue has developed the strength, stability, and confidence to keep doing what she loves.
She lifts weights.
She rows (and she rows hard).
She trains with intention.
And the results aren’t just seen in the gym — they show up in real life.
This summer, she’s backpacking in Baxter.
This fall, she’ll be skiing at Sugarloaf.
That’s not luck.
That’s preparation.
Strength training plays a critical role in maintaining muscle mass, improving balance, and reducing the risk of injury — especially for adults over 60, 70, and beyond. Research consistently shows that maintaining muscle is one of the most important factors in staying independent and active as we age.
Sue is living proof of that.
Here’s what she shared in her Google review:
“Adam Clark Fitness (ACF) has made it possible, through their diligent and fun exercising routines, for this 80 year old woman to be able to backpack in Baxter this summer, and ski at Sugarloaf this Fall with muscles that have kept me safe and strong! Never think you can’t do things you’ve always loved….. Adam and his team will get you there! It’s been an amazing experience to workout at ACF….. they will make sure your form is correct and adjust any exercise to suit where you are healthwise. I encourage anyone to join ACF and see how much better you will feel and how your life becomes fun!…. As Nike says “Just Do It!”
That’s Sue.
She doesn’t train just to work out.
She trains so she can live her life the way she wants to.
And that’s what we believe at Adam Clark Fitness:
Strength has no expiration date.
It’s never too late to start building strength. It’s never too late to improve how you move, how you feel, and what you’re capable of doing.
Sue shows us what’s possible.
And if you’re reading this thinking, “If she can do that at 80…” — you’re right.
You can do more than you think.
