Happy Friday! Can you believe it’s already Labor Day weekend? September is here, which means it’s time to finish 2025 strong and set ourselves up for success heading into 2026.
I don’t usually send an email on Fridays, but I was watching a webinar on nutrition coaching and heard an analogy that really stuck with me—I had to share it.
We live in a world filled with crash diets, restrictive eating, perfection mindsets, and self-sabotage. At ACF, we coach against all of that. And this simple analogy hit home:
👉 Did you brush your teeth last night? Probably yes.
👉 Do you plan on brushing your teeth tonight? Definitely yes.
👉 Have you ever missed brushing your teeth? Of course.
So what happens the next day?
You brush your teeth and move on.
You don’t beat yourself up. You don’t say, “I’m a failure.” You don’t throw in the towel and stop brushing for the rest of the week. You just get back on track.
Now think about fitness and nutrition. Why do we beat ourselves up for missing a workout, grabbing fast food, or not hitting all our goals for one day? Why do we sometimes say “screw it” and spiral when, really, the answer is simple: brush your teeth and move on.
Here’s the truth: reaching goals requires sacrifice, but perfection isn’t possible. Missing a day or slipping up doesn’t make you a failure—it just makes you human. The key is to get right back at it.
Just like brushing your teeth.
Hopefully this resonates with you and helps put things into perspective as we roll into September.
